Chocolate Covered Strawberries

Substitutions

You can use dark chocolate, milk chocolate, or white chocolate chips instead of semisweet chocolate.

This chocolate is versatile. Try dipping other things like mandarin oranges, kiwis, bananas, or even marshmallows. 

You can also add extras like a white chocolate drizzle or some colored sprinkles.

How to make Chocolate Dipped Strawberries

Stove top directions

Step 1 - Rinse the strawberries, and then dry the strawberries with paper towels.

Step 2 - Cover a small baking sheet or plate with wax paper. 

Step 3 - In a small saucepan over low heat, melt chocolate chips together with the shortening until smooth, stirring often.

Step 4 - Dip the strawberries ⅔ into the melted chocolate mixture.  Shake gently to remove excess chocolate.

Step 5 - Set strawberries on the prepared baking sheet or plate in a single layer at least 1 inch apart.

Step 6 - Chill in the refrigerator until firm, about 30 minutes.

Microwave directions

Step 1 - Rinse the strawberries, and then pat them very dry with paper towels.

Step 2 - Cover a small sheet pan or plate with wax paper. 

Step 3 - Place chocolate chips and shortening in a small microwave-safe glass bowl.

Step 4 - Microwave on high for about 1 minute or until melted, stir chocolate at 30-second intervals.

Step 5 - Dip the strawberries ⅔ into the melted chocolate chips.  Shake gently to remove excess chocolate.

Step 6 - Place strawberries on the prepared baking sheet or plate at least 1 inch apart.

Step 7 - Chill in the refrigerator until firm, about 30 minutes.

Pro Tips

The best way to store chocolate-covered strawberries is to leave them out overnight in a cool place if you will eat them within 24 hours. Otherwise, you can store them in the refrigerator in an airtight container for a couple of days.
