How to make Pears in Pastry
Heat your oven to 350 degrees F.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside. Parchment paper is one of my favorite kitchen staples and I use it as often as possible. Click for parchment paper.
Combine the sugar, cinnamon, and cardamom in a small bowl and set aside.
Remove the stems from the pears and then peel the pears with a vegetable peeler.
Core the pears by scooping out the cores using a melon baller. Click for a melon baller.
View this video on how to easily core a pear.
Sprinkle the sugar mixture all over the pears and set aside.
Unroll the thawed puff pastry dough and cut into two equal halves. Use a rolling pin to make it a little larger if needed.
Wrap a half piece of puff pastry dough around a pear and seal it by pinching it together with your fingers.
Fold the pastry together under the pear and tuck the pastry down into the top of the pear. Repeat with the second pear.
Transfer the pastry-wrapped pears to the prepared baking sheet, standing upright.
Brush the outside of the pastry dough with egg wash.
Bake for 30 minutes or until the puff pastry is golden brown and the pears are softened.
Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
Serve these gorgeous pears with ice cream or whipped cream if desired.

Hi Joan, I haven not tried this with apples yet but that is a great idea. I think it would work just fine using the same directions. If you decide to try it, let me know how it works out for you :)
