This recipe makes a great game day lunch, dinner, or a fun and impressive date night meal for two.

 

How to make Cheesy Pizza Puff Pastry Calzones:

Dice the green pepper and onion, if using.

 

On a floured piece of parchment paper, roll the puff pastry out to approximately 8 x 12 inches. Click here for parchment paper.

 

Cut the pastry in half giving you two pieces approximately 8 x 6 inches each.

 

Pour 1/8 cup pizza sauce, divided evenly, on each half of pastry, leaving a 1-inch border near the edges.

 

Top with the pepperoni, green peppers, onions, and any additional topping ingredients you prefer.

Add half of the mozzarella cheese to each of the calzones. Then top each with the other 1/8 cup pizza sauce, evenly divided between the two calzones.

Brush all around the edges with the egg then fold the pastry over the filling, stretching it out a little if needed. Pinch the edges together really well with your fingers all the way around. Then crimp with a fork all the way around.

 

Brush beaten egg all over the tops of each calzone and make a few slits in the top with a knife to let out the steam.

Place the parchment paper with calzones on top on a baking sheet and refrigerate while the oven heats up 10 – 15 minutes. Click her for a baking sheet.

 

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 C).

 

Bake 25 – 30 minutes. Let them cool 10 minutes before serving.

 

Serve with extra sauce on the side, if desired.
