Beer Boiled Brats and Onions Recipe

Beer Boiled Brats and Onions are awesome. We love this method for making brats! Brown the brats on the grill, caramelize the onions, then savor the smell of your brats simmering in a lovely brown ale. The brats are tender and juicy and are perfect topped with the onions and your favorite mustard or whatever else you like. Ready in 35 minutes!

Equipment

Ingredients

  • 5 Bratwurst
  • 1 onion
  • 1 Tablespoon butter
  • 12 oz beer
  • 2 Tablespoons brown sugar
  • 5 Brat buns
  • Mustard for topping (any flavor)

Instructions
 

  • Slice the onion into rings.
  • Preheat the grill and grill bratwurst about 5 minutes on each side to brown them.
  • While they are cooking, melt butter in a high sided frying pan.
  • Add onions and stir fry until they start to get soft.
  • Add the brown sugar and stir to combine.
  • Place the browned bratwurst in the pan and add beer and bring to a simmer. Allow to simmer for 20-30 minutes.
  • Fill the buns with the brats and top with the caramelized onions and mustard.
