boneless pork chops

green pepper

olive oil

dried onion (diced green onion)

parsley

cornstarch

salt

jarred minced garlic

sugar

Italian seasoning

tomato paste

pita bread

Shredded Mozzarella

Lettuce (optional)

Substitutions and additions

You can use pork, chicken, beef, or ground beef to mix it up a bit.

You can use romaine lettuce, fresh spinach leaves, or iceberg lettuce.

Add some red pepper flakes for some spicy heat.

Prefer a slice of cheese? Try sliced provolone instead of mozzarella.

How to make this pita cheese sandwich

Step 1 – On a cutting board, cut the pork into bite-sized cubes.

Step 2 – Dice the green pepper small.

Step 3 – Cut the pita pockets in half.

Step 4 – Heat the olive oil in a high-sided frying pan on medium heat.

Step 5 – Add the green pepper and pork in a single layer and cook until the meat is cooked through, stirring occasionally.

Step 6 – Stir in the onion, parsley, cornstarch, salt, minced garlic, sugar, Italian seasoning, water, and tomato paste.

Step 7 – Bring to a boil, reduce the heat, and simmer for 1 – 3 minutes until thickened.

Step 8 – Fill the delicious pockets of pita bread with lettuce, if desired, meat mixture, and mozzarella cheese. Serve and Enjoy.

  • 1/4 teaspoon jarred minced garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1 Tablespoon tomato paste
  • 2 whole pita pockets
  • Shredded Mozzarella
  • Lettuce (optional)

Instructions

Hi Mary, you could use marinara. The flavor will probably be slightly different and the marinara will not be as thick without the tomato paste. Let me know if you try it and how it turns out for you :)
